Look at this face:
Does that look like the face of a woman running her first half marathon? A woman who lost her training partner at 3km? A woman who doesn’t like running in the rain but did just that for 21.1km? A woman who had hoped for a warmer, sunnier day?
No. That is the face of someone who put in the training and was confident she could do it. That’s the face of someone who signed up for her second half marathon immediately following that race this spring. That next half marathon is the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
And I have some news to share about that race…
I have been selected as one of this year’s Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Digital Champions! As a runner with an active presence on social media, I have been selected to share my journey to STWM online.
Since the summer is busy and I’ll be out of town for a few weekends, this plan will be pretty flexible. It’s important that I get my mileage and my strength training in, so I’ll be tweaking this schedule throughout the summer to make sure I don’t miss anything.
I’m looking forward to sharing my training journey with you! Get to know the other Digital Champions on TorontoWaterfrontMarathon.com.
Training Update #1
Race Countdown: 11 weeks until race day.
Training Week: 1
How I’m Feeling: Sluggish and slow, to be honest. And a bit worried. I’m not running as much as I was when I started training for my first half marathon and it has been really difficult for me to fight through the heat and humidity this summer. I haven’t been putting in my mileage and I haven’t been putting in my cross training at the gym. I have been carb loading, though not for any races – I went to Italy for 2 weeks and ate like I ran a marathon every day. I don’t have a training partner for this race (yet) and since I’m sharing my training as a Digital Champion I’m worried that I’ll embarrass myself.
