De-Stress at Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie Paris at the Shangri-La Hotel

My schedule can get a little crazy. I work long hours and consistently overcommit to events and plans. I can’t complain because it’s my own fault but what I can do – and what everyone should do – is find ways to relax and unwind.

While I’m more of an express spa treatment kind of girl (hellooooo express facials at Blitz Facial Bar!) every once in a while I like to treat myself. The experience is less about the pampering and more about caring for myself enough to turn off my phone and recharge for a few hours. A few weeks ago during a particularly stressful week I made a 5pm appointment at the Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie Paris at the Shangri-La Hotel. The early appointment made getting out of work on time a bit stressful but also meant that I had no choice but to leave and turn off my phone.

The Set-Up

As soon as I arrived I was taken into the change room and put on a soft robe. Then I was taken into a lounge area with private booths, dim lighting, tea, and small snacks. Just as I was starting to unwind my therapist came to get me for my treatment.

The Hammam and Gomage Treatment

My treatment was a combination of a steam and body Gommage (exfoliation). I was given a sarong to wear and laid down in the steam chamber on a marble table for 15 minutes. It felt so good to just lie there and know that I had absolutely nothing else to do. No emails to answer, no social notifications to monitor, and no expectations from my experience.

Hammam and Gommage

After the Hammam I went to a cooler steam area for my body treatment. I laid on another marble slab and my body was exfoliated from head to toe with a delicious smelling soap and an exfoliating glove. After that I was rinsed off and put my robe back on before I was brought back to the lounge and treated to baklava and fruit.

Miraj Hammam Spa Review

When I was finally ready to leave I stopped to moisturize my freshly exfoliated skin and got dressed. I arrived home around the same time I normally would, dimmed the lights, and enjoyed a slow, quiet evening in.

Next time I will be booking a longer treatment. I would have loved to enjoy the Hammam and Gommage for a full hour. On my next visit I will definitely book a hammam and 60 (or 90!) minute massage to really get the most out of my experience.
