Every once in a while I like to send my friends surprise gifts to their home or office. Sometimes it’s a pick-me-up on a bad day and other times it’s just something I saw that I thought they might like. Most of the time shipping is expensive, well-thought-out gifts are hard to come by (and even harder to find in my limited time), and the process isn’t perfect. Given my hatred for the mall, online shopping for these tokens is an absolute must.
Last week I knew two of my good friends were feeling a bit stressed out at work. It had been a while since I had surprised either of them and I had heard about the Giftagram app on social media. Giftagram is a Toronto-based app which aims to redefine the act of gifting with an easy-to-use mobile app.
How It Works
The Giftagram app allows you to browse available gifts, treats, or experiences and send them straight from your phone. You don’t even need the person’s shipping address – just an email address or phone number. Once you select a contact from your phone (or enter a new one) and click ‘Send’ Giftagram will notify the recipient to get the correct address and your gift is on it’s way!
Which Gifts Can I Giftagram?
Giftagram has treats, gifts, and experiences from both local and international stores. I browsed through the curated categories like “For Her”, “Tech and Gadgets”, “Sweet Tooth”, and “Pets” but items are also grouped by price range. It also lets you select Favourites – in case you see something sweet and want to remember it next time you need a gift idea. New items are added each week based on special events, seasonality, and customer feedback.
Some items in my favourites:
I gifted two different friends little food items to serve as little pick-me-up surprises at work. For one friend I chose half a dozen s’mores cookies to either polish off at her desk or share with coworkers (no judgement here!) She raved about the cookies and sent me some pretty hilarious photos of the cookies on a tour of her office. They looked delicious!
For the other friend who is constantly on the go, I chose a gift box filled with different kinds of popcorn. After placing my order I contacted the company separately and they went above and beyond to ensure her order was made up of only their gluten-free and vegan options.
Interestingly, one of my friends thought that the text Giftagram sent to retrieve their shipping address was spam – so be sure to warn your tech-savvy/spam-conscious pals!
What was great was that both gifts matched what was pictured on the app! No surprises with squished gifts or food that looks too good to be true.
