It seems like Toronto’s restaurant scene is in a state of constant turnover. As soon as I make it out to try the latest and greatest cool kid resto, 50 more have opened in the meantime. A lot of spots are totally overhyped, some are overpriced, and some of the best places remain entirely under the radar.
I must have walked by Come and Get It at Queen Street West and Palmerston a million times since it opened this spring but only just visited last week. You may recognize the name because Come and Get It used to be a pop-up shop on Spadina. I thought the concept for the menu was pretty interesting.
You pick a flavour (or a few!) and the format. We tried one of everything as a bite because we are total gluttons and it was date night, dangit! The lunch and brunch menus are based on the same flavour profiles but the format is a bit different for each. Like for lunch you can get the flavours as a wrap or salad and for brunch you can things like the Fried Chicken & Waffles or the (OH MY GOD I NEED TO TRY IT!!!) Hawaiian Pork Belly Eggs Benedict.
My favourites were the fried chicken and the cute little bite-sized tacos. We ordered a mini poutine after because we just had to get more of the fried chicken.
Come and Get It has a serious no-bros-allowed, relaxed vibe and the staff were wonderful. The owner Jon think the key to Come and Get It’s appeal is its ability to create a space to enjoy a few drinks with friends (their cocktail menu was quite impressive) and enjoy food that is a step above traditional bar snacks or pub fare.
Come and Get It hosts #SNACKYHOUR every day from 5-7pm.
Get a free slider or snack with every cocktail, craft beer, or glass of wine.
