Between outdoor music festivals, concerts, day trips to the beach, laying in the park reading books and listening to music, travel, and everything else in between, my summer’s can get quite hectic. Factor in my job, which requires me to be connected most of the time, and you can imagine my phone (and especially its battery) tend to be put to good use. To really get the most out all of my summer plans I need a phone with a great camera and exceptional battery life. I also need to make sure I’m connected at all times to get work done on the go. Earlier this summer I was given a new Moto G phone to help me conquer the summer. My task was clear: test the Moto G at some of Toronto’s best concerts and outdoor festivals to see if it provided “festival freedom”.
My #FestivalFreedom criteria was as follows:
- Battery must last all day long – and then some!
- A great camera to capture Instagram and blog-worth images
- Bright, clear display that is easy to read in the sun
- Favourite social apps are available for download – including Instagram, Snapchat, and a slew of other social apps
- Fast – so that I don’t have to take my eyes off the action!
The Moto G certainly measures up on paper! Some of the specs:
- All-day battery
- 4.5″ Corning Gorilla Glass touchscreen display
- 5MP rear camera with 4x digital zoom and LED flash
- HD video
- Moto G FM radio
- Changeable, colourful backs/shells
- Android 4.4 with quad-core speed
- Comes unlocked (can be used on any service provider)
I put the Moto G to the test at OVO Fest, Corona SunSets, and Riot Fest and I have really been impressed with its performance. I have never used an Android phone before and was worried the set up process would turn me off completely, but it was quick and easy to get the phone set up the way I wanted it. Even with heavy use the Moto G’s battery lasted all day and once I got used to the camera, photos came out crisp and clear. My favourite part about the photos is that they are automatically synced to your Google account so I can access the photos from my computer or phone at any time.
Here are some of the photos from festivals I put the Moto G to the test at:
The phone has also done a lot of travelling with me this summer, including trips to New York (twice), Nova Scotia, and will be coming with me to Montreal in a few weeks The Moto G impressed me so much that I am in the process of switching my phone permanently. Goodbye iPhone!
The best part – the phone retails at a low $249.99 and is free on most 2-3 year contracts available with service providers. You can buy it online here.
