World Martini Day and #BelvedereShaken Cocktails

Happy World Martini Day! I’m celebrating tonight with a few NXNE performances followed by some martinis at my place with a few close friends before I head into full blown maid of honour-mode for my cousin’s wedding.

To help me discover my martini style (and unleash my inner Bond, naturally) I have this fully stocked kit from Belvedere that has all of the ingredients for the perfect classic vodka martini.

Belvedere vodka martini

I have been trying a few recipes here and there over the past few days to help me get through a few busy work weeks, wedding planning, and (finally) getting my business taxes done and I’ve definitely narrowed down my favourites. (Do you know how much easier reconciling income and expenses goes with a martini?) I like to call my martini style a little sweet, a little sassy, and a little traditional; a perfect fit with my personality. Here are three martini recipes that I use to harness my inner Bond, whether I’m feeling like a Bond vixen, villain, or Mr. Bond, James Bond himself.

Sweet

I have a new-found sweet tooth and sometimes after a long day, I just want a little bit of sugar in my martini glass. Some of my favourite ingredients to spice up my martini are pineapple, cranberry, and peach schnapps. Some of my favourite martinis that fit the bill include Lychee Martinis and Cranberry Martinis.

Cranberry Martini
1 1/2 oz Belvedere vodka
1/2 oz orange liqueur
1/2 oz vermouth
1 1/2 oz cranberry juice
Garnish with cranberries

Sassy

Sometimes your drink just needs a bit of extra sass (read: extra attitude, extra ingredients, and a sassy name). For these occasions I like to call on my friends Bikini martini and Pineapple Upside-down Cake martini.

Bikini Martini
1 oz Belvedere vodka
1 oz coconut rum
1 oz pineapple juice
Dash of grenadine syrup

Pineapple Upside-down Cake Martini
2/3 cup pineapple juice
1/3 cup Belvedere vodka
Dash of grenadine syrup
Garnish with pineapple wedge and maraschino cherry.

Traditional

Okay, there’s a reason why the classic vodka martini has been a staple forever. It’s because it’s good. Damn good. And while my sweet and sassy treats are a fun, occasional indulgence, my heart is still with the classics. I order these straight up and dry.

Classic Martini
1 1/2 oz Belvedere vodka
3/4 oz dry vermouth
(Shaken, not stirred, and garnished with an olive.)
Sometimes I also add 1/2 oz of olive juice to make a Classic Dirty Martini
