I remember the first time I ate my first King’s Crown at Sneaky Dee’s. I was an undergrad at University of Toronto and Bathurst Street was so far west I thought we might have to cab there from campus. When my friends and I lay eyes on the royal chips that arrived at our table we looked at each other like we had discovered an ancient secret. We were enlightened.
Years later (won’t say how many; I date beards, not myself) I know that most of Toronto has been “enlightened” by the King’s Crown. The dish has practically reached cult status in Toronto and most people I know admit to showing off their nacho highness to friends visiting from out of town.
I’m about to tell you an even bigger secret. On Monday you can enjoy the King’s Crown at Sneaky Dee’s for free! In exchange for 2.5lbs of non-perishable food items you can enjoy a King’s Crown nacho platter. All donations go to the Toronto Food Bank.
Never had the King’s Crown? Well they you just have to on Monday – FOR CHARITY! It’s tortilla chips covered with salsa roja, and then piled high with frijokes, ground beef, tomatoes, onions, mixed peppers, jalapenos, melted cheese, and top with guacamole and sour cream. Vegan and vegetarian options are also available!
RSVP: Bring your canned goods to Dee’s on October 28th from 2-5pm & enjoy your ‘chos!
