I’m allowing myself to be a bit more introspective lately and let my thoughts and wonderings run a bit wild. Not only have I learned a lot about myself but it’s also been a great way to inspire creativity. Every morning I take some time to enjoy my coffee while taking in this view and letting my mind wander while listening to some of my favourite music.
Sometimes my thoughts run professional and sometimes my thoughts run personal. Sometimes thoughts kick around half developed for a few days until they form properly. This week I came across the following sentiment which had been waiting for my brain to properly work it out and articulate it and what it means in my life:
I have a lot of goals; both professional and personal. I have certain milestones I want to meet and experiences I want to experience. Nothing is more important than reaching those goals – except everything about how I get there. Because I strongly believe that the path you take to reach your goals is more important than the achievement itself. That’s where the learning and growing takes place. I’m constantly reminding myself to be mindful of not only achievements but how I accomplish them. At the end of the day I know that I’m proud of my journey and that makes the outcome that much more worth it.
I think what I’m trying to say is that while the outcome is important, there are a million ways to get somewhere and you will only be judged by the actions you take to get there. There are many ways of getting where I want to be, but when I get there I want to have friends.
No one cares about your success, they care about your success story. So make it one to be proud of. Treat people well, stay positive, help those around you, and focus on the journey. And remember – when you reach your goal or your destination, will you be proud of the path you took?
As for me, I’m happily heading towards a lot of my goals while enjoying the journey 🙂
