2013 Travel Resolutions

You know that sad, helpless feeling you get when a good friend has been visiting and then they leave? Or when a vacation has ended, and you have to go back to your normal life and routine?Β I’m really feeling that this week after seeing so many friends and family over the holidays.

I’m lucky enough to have some really awesome friends who are doing really amazing things, but that also means that some of them have had to move far away on their own adventures. One of my high school besties has moved to Vancouver, a university roommate to Peru, and another to Austin. I also have friends in the UK and Australia. It sucks, but I love my city, and Toronto is the place I need to be.

And their amazing new homes means amazing travel opportunities for me!

I decided to share my 2013 travel goals with you. If I share them, it makes me feel like I’m accountable for them and maybe I’ll get to everywhere I want to go:

1. Austin, Texas

This one is easy since I’ll be attending SXSW in March and staying longer for a visit with Elissa. She may be moving this spring/summer so I’m looking forward to a long visit with a great host and tour guide.

2. East Coast Road Trip

It’s pretty embarrassing that I have never been outside of Ontario and Quebec, so I’m hoping to add a few east coast provinces to my list on an east coast roadtrip this summer.

3. Las Vegas

I have a long-standing open invite to go with my parents on their yearly Vegas trip and have been wanting to attend Bloggers in Sin City or go for a fun weekend with some girlfriends.

4. NYC

Can you believe I’ve never been? I have been wanting to explore the Big Apple for years and am hoping to cross the big city off my list this year.

Notable mentions: Vancouver, somewhere tropical (Cuba? Puerto Rico?) if I can swing it. I’d also like to take a few short roadtrips to visit Montreal (I usually go a couple times every year) and Ottawa.

Okay, it’s been blogged – now hold me accountable to my travel goals, Internet!

1 β€” never been high on my list, but I should attend one of the festivals sometime; I hear they’re pretty epic πŸ˜€

2 β€” one of my resolutions is to go further west in Canada than Windsor or further east than Montreal, so this is HIGHLY appealing! Let me know how it goes if you do manage to get it done πŸ˜€

3 β€” I’m ready for Monday at noon to get a spot! Woo!

4 β€” It’s an awesome city πŸ™‚ I hope you get to check it out. A week is NEVER enough to see everything you want to see… but it IS enough to eat a decent-sized hole in your wallet!

    Keep it up, Jamie πŸ™‚

I’ve never been to the East Coast either! It’s on our list for this year, because .. you guessed it… we have family near Halifax. As well, it’s the 300 year anniversary of Louisbourg, so we hopefully will swing by there to get our dose of history. We may cross paths on that trip!

That sounds like a great idea – I may have to work that into my plans as well! We’ll have to trade trip planning notes.
