At this time of year I find that people have giving back at the top of their minds. Last weekend I served dinner at a local church to low income families and have already signed up for my next volunteer gig with Second Harvest.
Each year, Second Harvest hosts a Turkey Drive at Loblaws locations across Toronto. Volunteers ask customers to donate a turkey to Second Harvest on the spot that will be distributed through Second Harvest agencies to people in need during the holiday season. The Canadian Red Cross is a partner of Second Harvest which is how I heard about the Turkey Drive. Second Harvest will donate some turkeys to the Red Cross’ mobile food bank program which delivers food to people who cannot make it to food banks.
You can volunteer too!
Shifts are morning or afternoon, Saturday or Sunday, on December 8-9th and 15-16th. Spots are limited, but you can see the available shifts at each Loblaws location here: http://secondharvest.ca/volunteer-opportunities#turkeydrive
To sign up to volunteer, please email Nicole Light at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 416.408.2594.
Spots fill up quickly so call right away!
If you can’t volunteer, I hope you’ll visit a Toronto Loblaws location on December 8, 9, 15, or 16th and donate a turkey!
Disclaimer: Second Harvest is a Canadian Red Cross partner but I’m volunteering and promoting the Turkey Drive because I want to not because I have to!
