‘Tis the season for dirndls, leiderhosen, strudel, and steins of cold beer. Steam Whistle Brewery wants to make sure you celebrate Oktoberfest in style at their annual Oktoberfest celebrations on Saturday September 29, 2012.
From 2-11pm, the Steam Whistle Brewery opens it’s doors and massive event space to host one of Toronto’s busiest Oktoberfest parties. Start your day off with a ceremonial keg-tapping and indulge in steins of Steam Whistle, pretzels, sausage and sauerkraut, folk dancers, and fun. You can keep your 1-Litre Stein as a keepsake, because chances are your memories may be a bit unreliable after a few steins. Last year’s event was a near sell-out, so get there and start your celebrations early!
Pssstttt….I’ve also seen some of my favourite Toronto restaurants preparing recipes for Saturday’s event, including Cheesewerks.
To help you prepare for Saturday’s celebrations, here are a few common German phrases you may wish to use:
Steam Whistle is number one! = Dampfpfeife ist Zahl einer!
Why not pick up your stein! = Warum nicht abholen stein!
German Toast to your health = Prosit!
Waitress = Frollein
More beer, please = mehr Bier bitte
More pretzel please = mehr Brezel bitte
More sausage please = mehr Wurst bitte
Thank you = Danke
Women’s customary dress = dierndl
Men’s customary outfit = lederhosen
What’s your phone number? = Was ist Ihre Telefonnummer?
RSVP: Tickets are $25. There are no advance tickets, just head down to Steam Whistle Brewery on Saturday and pay at the door.
Are you coming? I’ll be there – let’s meet up and clink steins!
