How to Opt Out of Facebook E-mail as Default Contact Setting

How often do you check your Facebook e-mail Inbox? You might be surprised to find out that Facebook has switched everyone’s default e-mail address to the recently launched Facebook e-mail contact which merely delivers “e-mails” to your Facebook Inbox.

Facebook claims they are providing more choices for their user’s with these changes, lumped into the generalized Timeline changes slowly sweeping over Facebook profiles since April. This switch was especially concerning for me since a lot of messages from people I don’t interact with often or am not Facebook friend’s with yet go to a “hidden” messages folder that doesn’t notify me when a new message appears there.

Here is the way to choose your way right back over to your old default contact settings:

1. Go to your profile and click on “Update Info” at the top of your profile.

2. Under “Contact Info” click “Edit”.

3. Double check the circles that determine which e-mail addresses are displayed on your profile/Timeline. The open circle means the address will be shown on your profile and the crossed out circle means it will not be shown.

In the example below, I have my @gmail.com address set to be displayed and my @facebook.com to not be displayed.

And while you’re in there, it wouldn’t hurt to take a look at your privacy settings again.
Lurkers gonna lurk. See ya on the Internet!
