I knew I wouldn’t be able to do Artist Spotlight‘s without telling you about one of my favourite bands, Gentlemen Husbands.
Gentlemen Husbands are a 4-piece band of boot-stompin’, guitar slingin’ boys from Cobourg. They manage to blend a rock n’ roll attitude and country guitar riffs with Derrick’s strong voice and powerful songwriting. It’s easy to forget that you’re stomping and dancing to a song Derrick wrote about losing a girl, but their sets are just one big party and you’ll find yourself dancing with the stranger next to you by the second song. I usually gravitate towards watching one band member at a live show, but I come down with a serious case of eyeball A-D-D watching each member of this band enjoy their moment on stage.
This is one of my favourite band’s to see live! From Jed’s footloose dancing to Ryan’s impressive guitar solos and all of their amazing cowboy boots, Gentlemen Husbands are sure to wake you up and get you dancing. I’ve posted a lot about them in the past, including my posts about NXNE 2011.
What can you expect? Cowboy boots, foot-stomping, butt-shaking dancing, and a fantastic cover of Petty, The Band, or Elvis. And of course, a crowd full of cute girls hanging on to every chord. I’m guessing we’ll hear a few old faves (Ramblin’ Andy, Mirror Doll Business, Family Economics) and a lot of the new material the Husbands have been working on.
The vibe? Think Barn Party meets the city. Rock n’ roll country.
Want to hear more? Check out the band on Soundcloud, Facebook, or Myspace.
Gentlemen Husbands play Lee’s Palace on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 10:30 p.m.

See you at the show? I’ll be singing and dancing in the front row.
