NXNE Artist Spotlight: Meanwood

With my last Artist Spotlight on Beams and now on Meanwood, it seems I’ve been drawn towards female lead singers this week. Lucky you!

Meanwood is the closest you’ll ever find me listening to “country” music. Gaining ground in the Toronto music scene with their crafted lyrics and high energy live shows, this 5-piece band has been rocking stages the likes of the Silver Dollar, Rancho Relaxo, The Horseshoe, and Dakota Tavern. Meanwood’s blend of country, blues, and rock is offset by female lead vocalist Viktoria Belle’s powerful voice that manages to blend a soul sound with an ass-kicking outlaw attitude.

What can you expect? Banjos, a powerful female vocalist, boot stompin’, and a whole lotta twaaaang to create a soulful rocking and rolling country sound.
The vibe? Two parts country, two parts rock-a-billy, five parts attitude. How many parts are we up to? Let’s add in 10 parts fun as well!
Want to hear more? Check out the band on Bandcamp where you can listen to and buy their digital album, Trials, released in January.

(Great song, but the background noise is a bit annoying. There’s also this video.)
