NXNE Artist Spotlight – Beams

I just about fainted when I looked at the calendar just now and realized how soon NXNE is. Like 8 days soon, son. Jebus! In the spirit of all things festival and music and amazing, I want to showcase a few of my fave artists playing NXNE this year.

First on the docket: Beams

Beams is an 8-piece folk-y band hailing from the Big Smoke (that’s the big T.O. baby, for all you snOObz).  Fresh out of the studio recording their first full-length, Beams has some stage-tested faves and some new treats to bring to the stage for NXNE.

Beams is no stranger to the stage – many of the band’s members have graced the stage with their instruments as part of Toronto’s own Hamilton Trading Co. While all 8 members are equally talented and passionate about their instruments, it’s banjo-strummin’, song writing, visionary dreamer Anna Mérnieks’ chillingly serene and strong vocals that caught me off guard the first time I saw them play the small stage at Not My Dog last summer.

What can you expect? Banjos, a musical saw (yeah, awesome!), acoustic guitars, amazing vocals, sing-a-longs, and maybe even a bit of dancing too.
The vibe? Chill and fresh, like an afternoon spent drinking box wine and tall cans in Bellwoods.
Want to hear more? Check out the band on Facebook.

Beams play Saturday June 16, 2012 at The Sister on Queen West at 11 p.m.

Check out the event on Facebook or on the NXNE site for more details.

See you at the show?
