Health & Beauty Trend: Coconut Oil from CocoVie

The health benefits of coconut oil are no secret. Coconuts boost the immune system and contains lauric acid which is antiviral and antibacterial. It boosts energy, improves digestion and aids in healthy weight loss. Coconut oil has anti-aging properties, conditions hair, anti-oxidizes skin, relieves stress, prevents tooth decay and solves crimes.

Move over Superman, Captain Coconut is here to save us from every health problem ever.

Kidding. But not really

I have been itching my dry skin to try Coconut Oil body lotions and cooking oil for a long time, and Jenna Marbles own endorsement made my yearning ten unicorns more urgent. There are tons of coconut-based products on the market, but I was looking for something containing all-natural ingredients and reasonably priced. I also try to support local companies whenever possible.

Enter: CocoVie Naturals. CocoVie is a Toronto-based company that make all natural coconut-based products.

I spoke with the founder of CocoVie whose energy was absolutely contagious. She strongly believes in partnering with communities and local farmers in warmer regions like the Philippines. In exchange for coconuts rich with natural ingredients, CocoVie ensures that a portion of their sales go to the farming families to improve working and living conditions.

They sell products directly from their website and are starting to pop up in local health stores and health-related trade shows. They also offer a variety of coconut-based ingredients like coconut jam, coconut flour and coconut sugar and post fun recipes using the ingredients.

My Picks

20120228-220904.jpgCocoVie Lip Balm in Butterscotch – Okay, I’m an obsessive lip balm and chapstick user. I have two sitting on my desk right now and probably some stashed in the drawer. (God forbid I ever have to leave my desk to re-apply!) While I prefer all-natural products like Burt’s Bees to menthol-loaded ones, the reality is I’ll try them all. CocoVie’s lip balm went on silky smooth and lasted longer than my usual go-to brand which is no small feat considering the smell made me want to eat my own lips. I use Burt’s Bees a lot at home, and the CocoVie lip balm reminded me why I prefer natural balms. I cannot emphasize enough how silky this lip balm made my lips feel!

20120228-220917.jpgCocoVie Hand & Body Cream in Invigorating Citrus – I’ll be the first to admit that my sense of smell is not very advanced, but this wouldn’t have been my first choice in scents for a body lotion. I tend to stay away from citrus scents in general because they remind me of cleaning products, but that’s just my own opinion. The lotion was really rich without being greasy; perfect for the winter months! I tend to get embarrassingly dry skin on the back of my arms and had heard coconut oil could help. The back of my arms have cleared up in only a few days using the body lotion, so I’ll have to pick it up in a different scent. The only complaint I had about this lotion was the smell, so I’m looking forward to trying it in another scent.

20120228-220932.jpgCocoVie Essentials Herbal Soap – I find it’s hard to find rich, creamy soaps that don’t leave you feeling either greasy, filmy, or dry but CocoVie has got it figured out. The bar is textured with tiny, exfoliating crystals to help buff away dead skin and condition. I love using it just for how great it leaves my bathroom smelling!

I’m looking forward to try the Coconut Body Wash and Body Oils, Virgin Coconut Oil (for cooking) and the all-natural Coconut Jam (a product exclusive to CocoVie).

Do you use any natural health & beauty products?

Awesome – thanks for the peppermint recommendation 🙂 I’ll have to try that one next.
