This week, Alliance Films hooked me up with passes to see the pre-screening of Shame – a film starring Michael Fassbender who we should all pause for a moment to really, really appreciate. Like as a
human being piece of meat.
My thanks go to the Director, Steve McQueen, for casting Fassbender as the sexual deviant instead of some hard-to-look-at, hard-to-imagine-sleeping-with chump in this film about a sex addict. Brandon (played by Fassbender) is a sex addict who “indulges” frequently (multiple times per day) but cannot tolerate any type of intimacy. His sexual routine is thrown off when his equally-disturbed sister comes to stay with him.
If I were in school writing a paper about the film in my anthropology class, I would say that it serves as a commentary of how the availability of sex (casual sex, prostitutes, pornography, etc.) has transformed the way North American culture views, treats, and experiences sex, and its affect on Fassbender’s character. I’d throw in some mumbo-jumbo about how the proliferation of casual sex has encouraged toleration of over-indulgence and diminished intimacy within our personal lives. God, I don’t even sound smart anymore…
While I’d love to tell you how great the film was, you’ll have to let everyone who actually got in to see it tell you instead. I arrived too late and the theatre was already at capacity. Regardless, everyone is loving Shame in the pre-screenings! Lots of my tweeps are tweeping about how good it is. I really think you’d like it. Hey, maybe we can all go see it together? Because I’ve got summa deeese:
What are you and a friend doing on Thursday, December 1st, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.? Alliance Films has also hooked me up with a bunch of pre-screening passes at Scotiabank Theatre for you guys! This is going to be a big movie, so you should definitely see it first! Leave me a comment and tell me you’d like to stare at Fassbender – ahem – see Shame.
Just leave me your name and e-mail address – I’ll do my best to hook you up!
