RSVP: Dogs with Heart in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation

Studies show that owning a pet can lower blood pressure and cholesterol, boost immunity, help fight depression, and improve your social life (beers at the dog park anyone? …Just kidding. Kind of…). While returning home after a long day’s work to find your new designer purse ripped to shreds by your new pup may give you a heart attack, the good news is that pet owners are more likely to survive a heart attack than non-owners.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation have introduced a new way to promote healthy living for pet-lovers and celebrate the health of you and your pets!

The first Dogs with Heart Fundraiser in Support of the Health and Stroke Foundation takes place on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Pawsway in Toronto. The walk-a-thon starts at the Pawsway with some fun in the dog-friendly photobooth and proceeds down the Lakeshore on a 45 minute walk, followed by refreshments back at the Pawsway afterwards. Be sure to pick up your swag bag for participating!

For only a $5 donation at the event you can also enter yourself in a draw to win one of these (AWESOME!) prizes:

  • $80 Pet Grooming Gift Certificate from Metro Dog Stop
  • 2-Month Program for your Dog from Fetching valued at $255 (I wrote about my experience at one of their programs here!)
  • Dog Friendly Gift Baskets from Super Fetch
  • $160 Pet Photography Session with photos and a CD from Toronto Pet Photography
  • 2 Gift Certificates valued at $100 for Dog Grooming at Urban Dog Fitness and Spa
  • An Amazon Adventurer Dog Jacket from Canada Pooch worth $50 (My fave! Moe the Boxer doesn’t know it, but he’s totally coveting one.)

You can also sign up to fundraise for a chance to win a year’s supply of Purina dog food worth $600.

Swag is awesome, but I bet the best part about the Dogs with Heart event will be returning home with a pooched pup ready to relax for the rest of the afternoon. Okay, I’m dreaming now…

Tickets for Dogs with Heart cost $25 and can be purchased here.

Saturday, June 2, 2012
10:00am-12:00pm (walk start time: approx 10:45am)
PawsWay, 245 Queens Quay, Toronto

RSVP: Free Pizza on Piola’s Patio

Add another event to the already awesomely stacked Thursday, May 17, 2012.

Remember when I wrote about my delicious dinner at Piola on Queen West? Their pizzas have garnered comparisons to popular Toronto hot-spots Pizzeria Libretto and Terroni and their monthly AYCE gnocchi night is reason enough for me to add a new size to my pants drawer.

Piola has upped the Queen West ante by announcing the opening of their 28-seat partio this week.  To celebrate the opening Piola is giving away free slices of pizza from noon to 6p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012.  All you need to do is sit on the patio and treat yourself to some free ‘za! You’re allowed up to 2 slices each which gives you just enough of a taste to see how amazing Piola’s authentic thin crust Italian pizzas are.

This event is free and there is no RSVP necessary.
Need another excuse to stop in?
Piola has launched a new menu fit for summer patio season and a three-course lunch prix fixe for only $15.

RSVP: Gap Be Your Own T Launch Party – May 15, 2012

My first Gap staple was this “statement” sweater in 5th grade. I had it in florescent yellow and my bestie had the bright orange. We wore them (on the same day, obvs) so often our teacher must have wondered when our parents even had time to wash them.

Now that I’ve retired my fave fleece hoodie, I have re-discovered Gap as a store that offers classic and simple staples for my closet. Their clothes are durable (my neon fleece made it past grade 8 graduation, much to the disappointment of my parents) and affordable. I still have Gap items on high rotation in my wardrobe, but now they are from the adult part of the store. My fave item right now is a pair of their straight leg tailored khakis because I can wear them to the office and then easily transition them to an evening look.

On May 15, 2012, Gap on Bloor is hosting the launch of the classic Gap T. Come by between 5-8pm and check out the latest styles and colours of this wardrobe essential. See something you like? Gap is offering a 25% discount on all merchandise as well as a Summer Beauty Essentials Kit for purchases over $75.

What you can expect: a contest to win a Bobbin bicycle, O.N.E. Coconut Water, Naked Grape wine, all the PopChips you can eat, cute snacks on cute trays from cute boys, an “in-store braid bar” to help get your hair into summer, and some fashion-savvy folks.

I’m looking forward to trying on some coral pants I’ve had my eye on and some straight-leg tailored black pants. And the T’s of course!

This event is free and no RSVP is required.

RSVP: Get Nailed Launch Party

Just after I posted this event on May 17th, I learned that the date was about to get a little more awesome with the announcement of the Get Nailed Launch Party at the Gladstone Hotel.

Get Nailed is the brainchild of Kristen Wood who just happens to be the owner of The Ten Spot line of beauty bars. The benefit of owning successful beauty bars is that the Get Nailed line of nail lacquers is salon tested and proven. The line has been called “bold, cheeky and fun” and with colours named “Shhh, you’ll wake my dad”, “Your place…or my car?”, and “You live with your mom?!”, the shades certainly have a lot to live up to.

The Lacquer also claims to be “4 Free” meaning it contains no Formaldehyde, Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) OR Camphor and of course, they aren’t tested on animals (cute or otherwise).

Want to Get Nailed on May 17th? Come on, I’ve got a room at the Gladstone. Okay, pick you up at 6?

I’ll see you at the Gladstone Hotel on May 17th in the 2nd Floor Gallery from 6-9pm. There will be Microbead Mini Manis from the always hospitable Ten Spot ladies and a chance to view the shades up close and personal (and test them in hotel lighting, no less).

It’s a free event, but be sure to RSVP here.
